The story of Green Spring Gardens' historic Beatrix Farrand landscape has earned a permanent home in the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) at the Library of Congress and is now available online.  The documentary report is held in HALS, a permanent federal program established to document and protect significant historic landscapes throughout the United States and its territories.  In writing and photos, the report chronicles the great designer's work at Green Spring, the private memories attached to it, and the recent restoration that keeps its legacy alive for visitors today. The HALS report also ensures that this legacy remains accessible to the historic preservation practitioners of the future.

The report was prepared under the leadership of Green Spring Historian Debbie Waugh and was accepted by the Library of Congress in 2016.  A brief summary appears on the Fairfax County Park Authority website.
