Current Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently seeking volunteers to help in the following areas. One of these volunteer opportunities is right for you!

Front Desk in the Horticulture Center:  Greet visitors, provide information, answer the telephone, sell plants and gift shop items.

Youth & Family Education: Assist staff with program activities for children and families such as family fun, scavenger hunts, school field trips, and Scout projects.

Historic House: Volunteer as a Hospitality Host to help in our Historic House to welcome visitors, assist staff with tasting programs and afternoon tea service.

Garden Beds: Assist staff gardeners maintain the many glorious gardens and green spaces at Green Springs Gardens.

Seasonal Volunteer Opportunites

Garden Gate Plant Shop
The plant shop staff could use your assistance. Come help 'care' for the plants we sell at the Garden Gate Plant Shop. Plants need watering and weeding, prices checked as well as keeping track of plant inventory.

Spring Garden Day
There are many volunteer opportunities to serve and help such as directing traffic, greeting visitors, helping with plant check and plant pickup, and retrieving wagons for customers’ use while shopping, and bake sale donations— cookies, cakes, pies, or whatever your specialty!

Family Fall Festival and Silent Auction
There are many volunteer opportunities to serve and help at the annual event. Please note, the activities listed below can vary from year to year.  

  • Silent Auction: Donate or solicit for needed auction items, put baskets together for display, monitor auction tables, or help with contacting bid winners,
  • Bake Sale: Donate your home-baked goods or help monitor bake sale tables.
  • Plant Sales: Help us by sharing your knowledge of plants with our guests. The Garden Gate Plant Shop can use your help too.
  • Odds and Ends ... Not sure where you might fit in? We need help with setting up, parking lot assistance and monitoring, helping guests find their way around, and clean-up at the end of the day.

Bake Sales
FROGS sponsors three bake sales throughout the year— Spring Garden Day, Fall Garden Day, and Gardener's Holiday. Volunteers help in many ways— donating baked goods, assisting at the event, or with setup or takedown.

Summer Concert
The annual Summer Concert at Green Spring Gardens is our way to welcome members and neighbors of all ages to a free musical evening in the gardens. Opportunities to help include membership recruitment, serving cake and lemonade, greeting guests, and more.

Gardeners Holiday Open House
This annual event is our way to celebrate the holiday season. Volunteers can help in many ways to make this a fun and successful event: 

  • Assist with indoor and outdoor seasonal decorations. (Before and after the event); 
  • Donate greens from your own yard; assistance is also needed to help bundle them for sale,
  • Donate baked goods and seasonal breads for the bake sale, 
  • Be a host or hostess and help serve refreshments,
  • Assist with Puppet show ticket sales or ticket taking at showtime.

Harry Allen Winter Lecture Series
This annual event is held on Sunday afternoons from mid-January until mid-March at Green Spring and given by notable authors, designers and scientists. Volunteers are needed to help with various tasks— room setup and takedown, attendee sign-in, refreshment set-up, and baked goods donations.
