FROGS and the Fairfax County Budget
Linda Nordstrom, President, FROGS Board

FROGS is a participating member of the Friends Alliance, an organization of Friends groups from various parks within Fairfax County. FROGS participated in several group meetings to analyze the Fairfax County budget as it impacted the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). What we learned from this analysis was that although the FCPA is approximately 0.6% of the county budget, proposed cuts to the FCPA were approximately 2.3% of the county budget.

The Friends Alliance also discussed how to address these impacts on behalf of Green Spring and all county parks during the Board of Supervisors' general budget hearings in late April. Aimee Martin, immediate past president of FROGS, was among the speakers.

In the end, the Board of Supervisors approved a budget that restored some key FCPA requirements, including nearly $380,000 for trail maintenance and mowing. Board of Supervisors Chair Jeff McKay specifically thanked the Friends for the effort and said he was glad to have been able to restore some funding. We have an ally!
