Green Spring's Book Groups
Liz Promen, Friends of Green Spring Board Member

book-club-mabey-richardStarting this month at the May 26 meeting, FROGS’ two book groups will be combining to discuss Accidental Garden: Gardens, Wilderness, and the Space in Between by Richard Mabey. New members are always welcome! The group meets at Green Spring at 1:15.

The book groups were founded seven years ago and have enjoyed dozens of books since then, covering all kinds of subjects broadly related to nature, mostly non-fiction but occasionally fiction. The group meets at Green Spring every other month on the fourth Tuesday. Books are selected by the group, and members take turns leading the monthly discussions.

book-club-SakuraTopics have included trees and plants, of course, but also biologists, worms, birds, butterflies, fires, plant hunters, foxes, rivers, tea, chocolate, fabric …well, just about anything that grows or impacts our environment. Recent titles include Hare by Gail Dalton, a charming memoir of a woman’s relationship with an orphaned hare, and The Sakura Obsession: The Incredible Story of the Plant Hunter who Saved Japan’s Cherry Blossoms, giving readers a real appreciation of the many varieties of the beautiful tree that marks the arrival of spring in Washington.
