FROGS Talk
by Linda Nordstrom, FROGS President
Linda Nordstrom, FROGS PresAutumn is here!
As you read this newsletter, I hope you are enjoying the fall days. Green Spring Gardens' last blooms of the year are hanging on for the last pollinators, the Edible Garden harvest is coming to a close, and the trees in our wooded area are putting on a beautiful show.
The gardens, as always, were beautiful this year. While FROGS purchases all the plant material for the gardens, it is our talented horticultural team and dedicated volunteers who keep the gardens looking their best. Thank you to Adam Butcher, Parker Jennings, Alda Krinsman, Brenda Skarphol, Pam Smith, Sarah Strickler, Nicholas Hames, Bryce Heavner, Judy Zatsick (GSG Site Manager), and their 30+ devoted, "rain or shine" volunteers! Along with those 30+ volunteers, Green Spring Extension Master Gardeners (GSEMG) volunteer in two of our gardens: the Edible Garden and Children’s Garden. As well as providing education from these gardens, this year the Edible Garden produced nearly 800 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruit that were donated to a local food bank. FROGS thanks ALL the volunteers for their untiring gardening efforts.
After a summer of construction in our previous Concentric Garden, the Moongate and path are complete. We have begun building the Asian-inspired Garden to surround it. Once the garden is finished, it will be another beautiful addition to our already exceptional gardens throughout the property. FROGS thanks Arlene Evans and Barry Dewberry, the generous donors who financed the majority of the Moongate.
The FROGS Board wishes you, our dedicated members, a peaceful autumn and holiday season.
