A Fantastical Summer
by Bailey Price, Youth and Family Education Coordinator

2023fall-yf-fairy01Green Spring had some magical visitors this summer. They even built mysterious structures in the woods behind the Historic House! After careful investigation, it was determined that a fairy village had sprung up amongst the roots of the trees.

2023fall-yf-fairy01-cropOur campers thoroughly enjoyed our summer camp offerings this year, with a lot of enthusiasm shown for our “Fairies & Gnomes” week. Using natural materials like acorns, seashells, feathers, and pinecones, campers spent hours crafting fairy homes.

Summer ended with raising monarch caterpillars for tagging and release. Visitors were able to enjoy all the stages of the monarch lifecycle through our view tank in the Horticulture Center. These tagged individuals are now on their way to overwinter in Mexico. We wish them luck!
