Happy New Year to all of you. Many of us who are involved in gardens see the winter as a respite from outdoor work but also a time of planning. The days are slowly getting longer, the seed catalogs are filling our mailboxes, and some gardeners are already starting seeds.

Friends of Green Spring, FROGS, is planning all sorts of activities to support the gardens. We’re also celebrating our 30 years of service to Green Spring Gardens. There is such a long list of projects, all supported by members like you, including the recent matching grant to build a retaining wall, last year’s very successful Annual Appeal to refresh the garden plantings, and our planned refurbishment of the Historic House and environs for this coming year. We hope to continue to add more new activities to involve the community.

So, get out your calendars! I hope you have already taken advantage of the Winter Lecture Series sponsored by FROGS (Green Spring Gardens, Harry Allen Lecture Series) and will be on the lookout for other gardening classes at Green Spring (Green Spring Gardens, Classes and Camps). In addition, mark your calendars for these FROGS-sponsored events in 2023:

  • Spring Garden Day: May 20
  • The Summer Concert: June 28
  • Family Fall Festival and Silent Auction: September 23

And don’t forget the revolving art shows in the Historic House and the Horticulture Center.

We hope to see you soon, indoors or out, at Green Spring Gardens!
