Plant Swap
by Elizabeth Waugh (she/her)
Youth & Family Education Coordinator

While there are a few plant stars in the midst of winter (holly and camellias come to mind), there is certainly a lack of all things green. Indoor plants can help bring the outdoors inside, and bridge the horticulture gap over the winter months.

plant swap 2022Green Spring held its first ever Plant Swap/Adoption Event on March 19th. The event was a success and drew attendees who brought houseplants, cuttings, and containers to swap or leave for adoption.

As participants checked in they had the opportunity to explore the Horticulture Center. Extension Master Gardeners ran the Help Desk to answer any and all plant care questions. Books on indoor plants were on display in the Horticulture Library, and docents gave tours of the glasshouse collection. Extension Master Gardener Linda Ethington delivered a lecture on houseplant care, accompanied by educational hand-outs.

We are excited to hold the Plant Swap/Adoption as an annual event and continue to grow the horticulture community by connecting with our indoor plant lovers in northern Virginia.
