Green Spring Gift Shop Welcomes You
by Elizabeth Jackson, Visitor Services Assistant/Gift Shop Manager.
When the witch hazels are in full glorious bloom, and the snowdrops start peeking out, the gift shop shelves beg to be filled for spring. Working at the front desk and buying for the shops gives me the unique pleasure of observing our visitors of all ages delight in the array of offerings.

Some shoppers begin the season with a new pair of gloves, a hori-hori knife, and a colorful bin to launch the attack on spring weeds. Others choose a Green Spring Gardens t-shirt and a new hat to protect from the sun.
As the days get warmer and the baptisia and peonies take the stage, visitors may choose a new piece of nature-inspired jewelry and a scarf to tour the garden in style. They know it is wise to carry along a beautiful umbrella in case rain threatens on one of many garden visits mapped out on the calendar. Some plan for rainy days with a new garden book for inspiration, a puzzle to tackle, or a lovely notecard to practice the art of the handwritten note.
Many entertain the younger generation with a sweet nature book, a field guide to identify trees or wildflowers to carry along on a nature walk, or a houseplant and decorative pot of their own to tend.

History lovers gather to immerse themselves in another time with lectures such as “The Crown: Fact or Fiction” or “The Victorian Seaside” and then enjoy an afternoon tea party brimming with traditional fare in our lovely Historic House. After the last cucumber sandwich is consumed, guests might select a decorative teacup and saucer and a bag of Strawberry Chocolate tea to enjoy at home.
Be sure to stop inside during your next visit to select something new to delight and inspire!
