FROGS Talk
by Aimee Martin, FROGS President
Aimee Martin, FROGS PresidentI’m entering as the new president of FROGS, following in the awesome footsteps of Ivy Sinaiko. Not only did Ivy capably lead the pivot to COVID-era operations, but she did it with grace and humor. And more than a little forbearance, as we and the public struggled to adjust to restrictions. As we go into year three of these challenges, I count on her guidance as well as that of our great FROGS board and the Green Spring Gardens staff. It’s especially great to see Judy Zatsick back at Green Spring, now at the helm.
I’ve been a FROG for about 11 years and on the board for 6, so I’ve seen firsthand what a difference the Friends of Green Spring make for Green Spring Gardens. As a member of FROGS you have participated in events and labored in the gardens or at the desk, making all this beauty possible. You have also helped raise the money that pays for so much that the county can’t afford: all the plant material at Green Spring Gardens, interns, special projects, and support for Title 1 school visits. Because of you, this island of peace and beauty is a refuge and an inspiration.
We are especially grateful to you and the rest of the public for the wonderful response to our annual appeal. As we mentioned in the appeal, lack of funds and staff, bad weather, and just the passage of time had resulted in a decline in the plantings, from the smallest beds to the trees. The response has been tremendous and heartwarming. We’ll be able to replant and restore this spring. Come and see what we’re doing, or bring your gloves and dig in! We’ll count on your volunteer spirit.
